Ex-Liverpool star Dejan Lovren swaps footie for UFC – and is forced to tap out

Any thoughts of a career-change that Dejan Lovren may have had should now be dead in the water.

The former Liverpool defender took part in a training session with UFC icon Mirko Filipovic, getting in the Octagon with his fellow Croatian.

Though it didn’t work out for the Zenit St Petersburg man, who was without a game this weekend.

Lovren posted footage of the ‘bout’ on social media and somehow managed to last 50 seconds with Filipovic.

Though the former UFC star did trap Lovren in an arm-bar with the ex-Reds star having to tap out.

Lovren wrote: “Had this morning a short training session against @crocop1009.

“What a beast this man still is. Was a big pleasure Mirko. Thank you.”

Lovren left Liverpool last summer, though Jurgen Klopp may be rueing allowing the Croat to leave given the Reds’ defensive issues.

When asked whether Liverpool’s defensive injury crisis would cost them the Premier League title, Lovren recently said: “Yeah, that’s one of the reasons, that’s for sure.

“It’s not the same compared to having Van Dijk, Joe Gomez or Matip there.

“It will be tough this season but there are still a lot of games in front of them. I think they have a lot to prove, nothing is over, but for the top four everything is possible.”

The 31-year-old added: “Yes of course I could do the job but like I said do I have regrets? No.
