Ex-Premier League star escapes red card despite petty slap in Qatar Stars League

Ex-Premier League star Lyanco was looking to escape a red card with a petty slap while playing in the Qatar Stars League.

Lyanco moved to the Middle East on loan over the summer from Southampton – who he had joined in 2021 from Torino. And he turned out for new side Al-Gharafa as they took on Al-Sadd on Thursday evening.

However, it was frustrating afternoon for Al-Gharafa, who shipped four goals against the current table toppers. And Lycano was seen lashing out with a petty slap in a clip that has gone viral on X, formerly known as Twitter.

PSG loanee Ilyes Housni is dancing around the Al-Gharafa defender, when he is abruptly brought down by the Brazilian. Al-Sadd players weren't happy with the challenge, and immediately started to confront the ex-Prem star.

Qatari superstar Akram Afif was visibly unhappy with Lyanco, and he made a beeline towards the winger – only to be met with a slap. Amazingly, Lyanco escaped with just a caution – to the amazement of fans.

What do you think of the slap, should it have been a yellow card? Let us know in the comments section

"This man never fails to entertain me," one fan joked. While a second responded: "What a liability, but he's damn fun!"

"Tbf I've seen more contact in the WWE," a third said, taking a more lenient stance on the incident. And another added: "Didn’t touch the guy with the slap , worse than the acting on Eastenders. He should have got a yellow card for play acting!"
