Fan left unconscious in vicious fight as West Brom & Millwall yobs break gate

A fan appeared to be knocked unconscious during a brawl between West Brom and Millwall supporters at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.

The shocking scenes is thought to have taken place at half time of the 1-1 draw between the teams in the Sky Bet Championship.

Fans from both sides could be shoving each other and landing blows, with a stadium gate also ripped down during the mass punch-up.

A person appeared to be knocked unconscious during the awful scenes, with fellow fans forming a barrier to protect him, as he appeared to be laid motionless on his back.

The fan is believed to be Millwall fan but his condition is also unknown at this time.

A separate clip shows bottles being pelted at supporters to the sound of West Brom chants, with a huge crowd charging towards a fence.

Others could be seen running in the opposite direction to get away from the danger.

Police are searching for those involved with the violence.

Chief Inspector Ian Gorman, from West Midlands Police said: "We’re sad to say that there were pockets of fighting at the match on Saturday.

"Video of some of these fights was uploaded onto Facebook and Twitter which we’re using along with our own images and the club’s CCTV to find those responsible.

West Midlands Police are appealing to anyone who can help their investigations to contact them via Live Chat on their website

Fans took to Twitter to slam the scenes at the Hawthorns, with one person describing it as “disgusting behaviour.”

Another wrote: “Ban (them) from every football ground and arrest them all. Shameful behaviour from each and every one (of them) involved.”

Others shared this sentiment, calling for bans and other sanctions for those in the video.

Neither club have yet commented on the situation which occurred outside the ground.

Similar scenes occurred in August, when Millwall fans were also involved in a brawl after their clash with Cardiff, with police and stewards needed to control the crowd in the Welsh capital.

Saturday’s draw kept West Brom top of the Sky Bet Championship table, whilst The Lions are in 14th, with only one win in their opening six.
