Ferdinand warns Arsenal fans not to 'go overboard' on Gabriel Jesus

‘Don’t go overboard!’: Rio Ferdinand warns Arsenal fans not to overhype Gabriel Jesus and say he is ‘overshadowing’ Erling Haaland at Man City… despite the Brazilian’s ‘unreal’ impact so far in north London

Arsenal fans have been warned not to ‘go overboard’ in their praise of new star striker Gabriel Jesus by Rio Ferdinand.

Jesus has hit the ground running in north London and fans have been quick to pile praise on the impact of the Brazilian.

But Ferdinand wants Arsenal fans to keep things in perspective after he heard suggestions Jesus has been ‘overshadowing’ Erling Haaland, the man who has replaced him at Manchester City.

Rio Ferdinand wants to see Arsenal fans not ‘go overboard’ in their praise of the Brazilian star

‘I think that Jesus’s impact has been unreal,’ Ferdinand said on his FIVE YouTube channel.

‘I think that he has been a fantastic signing, an absolute major signing for Arsenal, but please don’t go overboard like all Arsenal fans do.

‘When you have got [Erling] Haaland banging in a hat-trick at the weekend and you are going, “Oh, Jesus is overshadowing him still”, what are you talking about?’

Arsenal are currently atop the Premier League table and Jesus has been a key part in their early season form.

Jesus has two goals and three assists already with Ferdinand calling his impact so far ‘unreal’

Mikel Arteta’s side have yet to lose a game in the league and Jesus already boasts two goals and three assists after five games.

Jesus will be in conversation, many expect, for the end of season golden boot award given he is now the main man at Arsenal after his £45million move.

“When you bring in top players who are coming from top clubs where they have been extremely successful over the years, they are going to expect that expectation [of being successful],’ Arteta said earlier this month.

‘The role Gabriel has here is going to be very different to the role he had at his previous club, that needs some adaptation and some time.

‘He’s done it fantastically well, we are surprised how quickly he has done it, but we have to share that responsibility.’

But Ferdinand wants things kept in perspective with Haaland, the man who replaced Jesus, already on six goals after his first Premier League hat-trick at the weekend.
