Liverpool are already said to be considering giving their international stars some extra time off this summer, meaning they could miss the club’s opening Premier League fixture at Norwich on August 14. Reports claim that Jurgen Klopp is keen to ensure that a number of his first-team squad get sufficient rest following their participation in international tournaments.

The likes of Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold headed straight into camp with England following the completion of the Premier League season.

Henderson missed the final few months of the campaign as he stepped up his recovery from groin surgery.

Alexander-Arnold was later ruled out of the tournament after sustaining a thigh injury in the 1-0 warm-up win over Austria.

The European Championships are due to finish on Sunday, the same day the Copa America also finishes.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds are already considering giving their international players some additional time off to rest up for the new season.

The report claims that Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho, Alisson and Roberto Firmino are all doubts for Liverpool’s opening day trip to Norwich on August 14.

Playing the Canaries on the first matchday is a good omen for the Reds, who won their first-ever Premier League title after thrashing Norwich 4-1 at Anfield in August 2019.

Yet Klopp could name a heavily-rotated side when the two teams collide in East Anglia.

While there are doubts over the long-term futures of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita, both could look to grasp any potential opportunity with both hands.

Liverpool have put their foot down though when it comes to sending Mohamed Salah to the Olympics.

It’s understood the forward was keen to represent his country in Tokyo but Liverpool refused to release him.

Participating at the games would see him miss at least the first match of the new season.

He will have to play a huge part for Liverpool next term if they are to bounce back following a trophy-less campaign that saw them surrender the title to Manchester City.

Salah, Sadio Mane and Keita could be heading off to the African Cup of Nations next January too.

That is why Klopp is reluctant to sell Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino, given they could be hard to replace at a low cost.

Liverpool are expected to make several more acquisitions to their squad, with Renato Sanches a player of note.
