Nottingham Forest’s delighted supporters will be talking about their huge win over Liverpool in 10 years’ time, according to NBC pundit Robbie Earle.

Steve Cooper’s basement boys produced a miraculous victory over the Reds to climb off the bottom of the Premier League table, with Taiwo Awoniyi scoring the only goal of a fervent afternoon at the City Ground.

After the game, goalkeeper Dean Henderson – who himself had an incredible afternoon, denying Virgil van Dijk in the dying moments – even clambered into the crowd to celebrate, and Earle went on to speak about the delirious post-match scenes.

His performance was enjoyed by both Forest fans, and supporters of Manchester United

‘[That was] something beautiful, something that makes the Premier League unique,’ he said on NBC Sports. ‘All the talk about Nottingham Forest has been 22 new players, who will never get the spirit. We’ve just seen a performance, we could watch [the celebrations] for another 30 minutes.

‘This set of players, and this set of fans, knew this was a special day. It’s a win that will kickstart their season, this is a win that gives belief.

‘There will be kids in that stadium who have never seen Forest in the Premier League, there will be older folk who remember Forest when they’ve won titles and European Cups. They’ll talk about this game in 10 years’ time, about the win at home to Liverpool.’

Tim Howard, meanwhile, was quick to praise his fellow goalkeeper Henderson after his brilliant performance.

The Englishman – who is bidding to earn himself a spot in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad – will have delighted both Forest fans and supporters of his former club Manchester United with his heroics.

‘It was a fantastic day [for Henderson],’ Howard said. ‘When you’re at the bottom of the table, you need your goalkeeper to have a fantastic day.

‘The talk has been about all the players, they [the club’s owners] handcuffed Steve Cooper really… how does he keep continuity with this team? They’ve started to find a rhythm and groove with their defensive players.’

‘For Liverpool, that’s a bad day,’ Earle added. ‘It’s a big, big loss for Jurgen Klopp and his men.’

With the victory, Forest climb above Leicester and off the bottom of the table, recording only their second victory of the Premier League season so far.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are stuck in a slump down in seventh, already having recorded more losses than the entirety of last season.
