Gareth Bale's agent confirms Real Madrid star wants to join Tottenham

Tottenham are in talks with Real Madrid over a deal to sign Gareth Bale this summer after the Welshman’s agent confirmed the winger wants to return to the north London club.

Bale, 31, swapped White Hart Lane for the Bernabeu for a then-world record fee of £87.5million in 2013 but he’s been persitently linked with a return to the Premier League in recent years, with Manchester United usually touted as his most likely destination.

Manchester United tried to sign the Wales international when Jose Mourinho was their manager in 2017 and the Portuguese coach was seen asking Bale about a move to Old Trafford after a friendly between United and Real in Los Angeles that summer.

Mourinho clearly still rates the winger and Bale’s agent has now confirmed he wants to return to the club.

‘Gareth still loves Spurs,’ Jonathan Barnett told BBC Sport Wales.

‘We are talking [Spurs, Real and Bale’s camp]. It’s where he wants to go.’

Bale earns around £600,000-a-week in the Spanish capital and his wages remain a significant stumbling block to Spurs’ hopes of signing him.

It’s believed the club would rather sign Bale on loan than on a permanent deal and Madrid would have to foot at least half of his salary if a deal is to materialise.

However, after being ostracised by Zinedine Zidane, it’s clear that the club are finally ready to part with Bale and a dream return to Spurs could offer him a route out.
