Garnacho called ‘clown’ with ‘mentality of child’ for Man Utd pen spot antics
Alejandro Garnacho has been branded a "clown" after attempting to sabotage the penalty spot during Manchester United's 4-3 defeat to Copenhagen.
The result, which was the Red Devils' third defeat in four Champions League games, left them rock bottom of their group with just two matches remaining. Garnacho played the entire match, but offered little else than an attempt to scuff the penalty spot just as Diogo Goncalves was stepping up to equalise for the Danish side in first half stoppage time.
Garnacho has previous, having been spotted ruining the spot with his boot ahead of a last-minute Copenhagen penalty, which was saved by Andre Onana, during United's 1-0 win over the Danes last month. As such, Copenhagen's players were ready for him this time.

According to defender Denis Vavro, his team-mate Kevin Diks stood in front of the spot and prevented Garnacho from getting to it. Speaking to Danish outlet Bold, Vavro fumed: "I saw that he tried to do something about the penalty kick, but Kevin Diks stood in front and blocked it.
"It is the second time. And then he's tried to do it again in our stadium? To me he is a clown. He has the mentality of a child when he tries something like this again in an away game. One thing is at home in the 97th minute, but here in the first half. I don’t understand him trying to do that."

Copenhagen got the last laugh as not only did Goncalves successfully dispatch his penalty but they ended up sealing a dramatic comeback victory in the dying minutes. Furthermore, a visibly emotional Garnacho had to be helped from the turf at full time by Bruno Fernandes after breaking down in tears.
Hojlund put United ahead after just two minutes and added a second just before the half-hour mark, but the momentum shifted when Marcus Rashford was controversially sent off for an accidental stamp. Copenhagen quickly pulled one back through ex-Southampton star Mohamed Elyounoussi, and were level before half-time after Goncalves scored from the spot.

However, United got their noses back in front after Fernandes scored a penalty of his own, but their lead didn't last long. Two Copenhagen goals in the last 10 minutes, scored by Lukas Lerager and Roony Bardghji, flipped the game on its head again and consigned the Manchester club to their ninth defeat of the season.
