Gary Lineker has reminded Liverpool fans how Leicester have had to cope with injuries themselves this season.
The Foxes have enjoyed a strong start to the season and sit top of the Premier League table.
Despite the distraction of Europa League football on Thursdays and a host of their star players being sidelined, Leicester have flourished.
They’ve won six out of eight in England’s top flight, and have been victorious in all three of their Europa League group stage games.
Reigning champions Liverpool are third in the Premier League table and a point shy of Leicester heading into Sunday evening’s clash (7.15pm) at Anfield.
Ex-Reds boss Rodgers is poised to visit his old stomping ground without five defenders in the form of injured quartet Timothy Castagne, Caglar Soyuncu, Christian Fuchs and Ricardo Pereira, while Jonny Evans is suspended.
Daniel Amartey remains sidelined, while Wesley Fofana was forced to pull out of the France Under-21s squad and now faces scan on his knee, and Jamie Vardy has had niggles throughout the season too.
If Liverpool thought their defensive crisis was bad, they could spare a thought for the frail Foxes.
Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold will all sit out the game on Sunday too, while Andy Robertson is doubtful for Jurgen Klopp’s side, so a goal fest could ensue.
An additional irritance for Reds supporters is the appointment of David Coote as the VAR official following his criticism off the back of the Merseyside derby which saw Van Dijk injured against Everton.
One Liverpool fan wrote on Twitter: “David Coote is the VAR official for Liverpool vs Leicester at the weekend. Is this some sort of sick joke?”

A joking response read: “If Liverpool beat Leicester with their entire back four and captain injured, Salah out with Covid and having to cope with Coote as the VAR, it’ll be bigger than Istanbul.”
Lineker was quick to defend his former club, though, who themselves have been ravaged with injuries this term.
He replied: “Leicester have been without their back 4, and often their best 5 players, for much of the season and are top of the table.
“It’s still not bigger than Liverpool in Istanbul and certainly not bigger than the miracle of 2016.
“Let’s not lose perspective.”
Leicester must just avoid defeat to stay above Liverpool in the table, while second-placed Tottenham, who are a point behind too, host Manchester City on Saturday (5.30pm).
Elsewhere, fourth-placed Southampton, who are two points behind Leicester, go to Wolves on Monday (8pm).
