Gary Neville does not name Erling Haaland as the player he most wants at Man Utd

Gary Neville has named the player he would most like to join Manchester United in the summer transfer window – and it's not Erling Haaland.

United are said to be one of several clubs eyeing up Haaland amid his breathtaking form for Borussia Dortmund, with a return of 33 goals in as many appearances earning the striker a host of admirers.

It is believed Dortmund have slapped a £150million price tag on their star man, meaning any potential suitor will have to make him one of the most expensive players in football history.

As well as United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid have all been linked with Haaland.

But when asked on Twitter which player he most wants to join the Red Devils this summer, Neville named Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane instead of Haaland.

Varane has spent the last 10 years at Madrid, racking up over 350 appearances for Los Blancos and developing into one of the best defenders in world football.

The Frenchman would be the perfect central defensive partner for United captain Harry Maguire, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly unconvinced by current options Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly.

Solskjaer is understood to be targeting a new centre-back as well as a right winger and a striker in the summer transfer window.
