Harry Kane has responded to reports he was hoping to sign for Manchester United over the summer.
The 30-year-old left Tottenham for Bayern Munich after the clubs agreed a sensational £100million deal in August, finally ending speculation linking him with a move Old Trafford. Speaking at a press conference ahead of Bayern's Champions League clash with United, Kane admitted there was interest from "a few clubs", but insisted he only wanted Bayern once the German giants entered the fray.
"To be honest over the summer there was some talks between a few clubs in the background, but then Bayern was a team I was really interested by and really excited by so there weren't too many other discussions once they came in [for me]," he told reporters. "It was between them and Tottenham to talk and the deal got done."

Turning to United, he said: "Obviously Manchester [United] are a great club. A really big club. But I decided to come here and I'm really happy I have."
While the Red Devils had a long-standing interest in Kane, it was their neighbours Manchester City who came closest to signing him back in 2021. Pep Guardiola was desperate to find a replacement for Sergio Aguero, who had just left for Barcelona, and made Kane his number one transfer target.

The England skipper was clearly keen on the move and even submitted a transfer request to try and force Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy's hand. But Levy held his ground and refused to do a deal, leveraged by the fact that Kane still had three years left on his contract at the time.

Erling Haaland's arrival the following summer naturally cooled City's interest, but United appeared to come back into the picture following Cristiano Ronaldo's explosive departure in November 2022. Erik ten Hag wanted a new centre forward, but the club refused to meet Tottenham's asking price, and a move for Kane never materialised.
United will line-up against him on Wednesday night as they travel to the Allianz Arena ahead of their Champions League opener against Thomas Tuchel's side. The return fixture at Old Trafford will take place in December.
