Barcelona's centre-back Ronald Araujo had been loaded into an ambulance on the pitch after suffering a concussion at the Camp Nou following a horror collision with his teammate Gavi.

The pair collided in the air, and Araujo was able to keep running after the head collision. However, after jogging back to his defensive position, the centre-back fell to the floor in worrying scenes.

Play was stopped as soon as Araujo fell to the ground, and it didn't resume for another eight minutes as the defender received treatment on the pitch before being moved into an ambulance. Eric Garcia was closest to the defender, and he put him in the recovery position after he fell.

Barcelona tweeted: "Ronald Araujo has suffered a concussion and has been taken to the hospital to undergo further testing."

Awareness around head injuries has improved over the past couple of years with the implementation of the concussion protocol. Referees must now stop the game if any player has the signs of a head injury.

Gavi was able to carry on playing despite being part of the collision.

Barcelona had been leading the game 3-1 at the time of the collision.
