How the five Arsenal players Arteta let go are faring so far

Arsenal's summer transfer window was seen as something of a success.

It was Mikel Arteta's first in charge and he brought in Willian, Gabriel Magalhaes and Thomas Partey.

Not only did he secure three important signings, he oversaw the extension of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's contract. Arguably a signing in itself.

But it's not just additions that Arteta was in charge of, the Spaniard also had to deal with those players who wanted out.

Whether it be a permanent sale or loan, the Gunners boss would have made every decision alongside Edu.

Five key players have left under his watch, some more recent than others, and we take a look at how they're faring.

Matteo Guendouzi

The French star was exiled from the first team ever since grabbing Neal Maupay's throat in the defeat to Brighton at the back end of last season.

Guendouzi was forced to train alone at times and, according to reports, Arteta was thoroughly unimpressed with his attitude.

The midfielder joined Hertha BSC on loan but has yet to make an appearance for the German side.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

On loan at Roma last season it seemed like there was only one route for the Armenian.

A fairly easy decision for Arteta to make, especially as he tries to shape his own Gunners squad.

And the permanent move seems to have worked out for the former Manchester United man as he's registered four assists in six appearances so far this season.

Lucas Torreira

Torreira got his Arsenal career off to a promising start but it didn't take long for a few issues to arrise.

The Uruguayan struggled to adapt to English life and the language barrier.

Despite his obvious talent, he wasn't happy.

Arteta sanctioned the loan move of Torreira to Atletico Madrid which certainly helped the Thomas Partey deal get across the line.

Torreira has made two La Liga starts and come on as a substitute in the Champions League.

It seems things are running smoother in Spain.

Konstantinos Mavropanos

The defender joined the club in 2018 and has only made a handful of first team appaerances.

A loan spell at Nurnberg last season was followed by another at Stuttgart this term.

Mavropanos made just one appearance before suffering from a torn meniscus against Bayer Leverkusen.

At 22 there is still time for him to make his mark at Arsenal.

Emiliano Martinez

Emiliano Martinez's form at the back end of last season looked to be enough to get him ahead of Bern Leno in the Arsenal keeper pecking order.

So it came as something of a surprise when Arteta was happy for him to go. Aston Villa took full advantage and snapped the shot-stopper up for £20million.

The Argentine has made four appearances for Dean Smith's side so far and impressed.
