Jack Grealish sent blunt warning by Gareth Southgate after party antics
Jack Grealish revels as Manchester City parade treble
Jack Grealish has been told there is a line that cannot be crossed after his three-day Champions League bender. England manager Gareth Southgate revealed he has been “monitoring” the Manchester City players’ behaviour since helping his side lift the trophy in Istanbul on Saturday.
And the pressure is on Grealish to measure up physically when more intense training begins back in Manchester on Sunday ahead of Euro 2024 qualifier against North Macedonia at Old Trafford. “There is a line,” Southgate warned.
“Yes, without a doubt, we will be using physical data to measure their performance. But training has been really light the last couple of days because we had to push the group,
“For now the focus with all of the Man City boys is just get them right for these games. They need to recover, they need to sleep, they need to eat well and we want to get them ready. I’ve seen enough to know what could help us tomorrow and then Monday is a few days further on.”

Several pictures were put on social media of Grealish looking the worse for wear but what really raised eyebrows was his decision to make an overnight stop in Ibiza on Sunday before returning for the trophy parade the following day.
Since the City players reported on time at St George’s Park on Tuesday night, the rest of the squad have been watching Southgate to see his reaction to Grealish’s antics but ahead of tonight’s game in Malta, he was continuing to hold his cards close to his chest.
“I have spoken with the players and we have talked about where our focus needs to be and where we need them to be,” Southgate said. “We have acknowledged what they have experienced and that is for me to manage over the coming weeks.

“The players look at every meeting you hold, every discussion you have. They are always assessing how you deal with situations.
“They look for a lead and for clues in how you deal with things. I don’t think they would have felt anything unusual about how we have dealt with this and how we have embraced the players back into the group.
“But there is nothing to be served with me discussing any of that publicly. I have got a good squad to pick from.
“We weren’t considering those boys to start this game. We were hopeful they could play some part and that is still the case.”
