Jeff Stelling congratulates Laura Woods as the presenter quits talkSPORT after three years – with the former Soccer Saturday host telling her to ‘enjoy the lie-ins!’

  • Both Stelling and Woods are leaving their hosting duties at major broadcasters
  • Woods will present her last broadcast for talkSPORT on Wednesday June 28
  • Stelling bid an emotional farewell to Soccer Saturday after 30 years in charge

Jeff Stelling congratulated his fellow broadcaster Laura Woods on her work upon the announcement of her departure from hosting duties on talkSPORT’s Sports Breakfast show on Wednesday.

Woods, who helmed the show for three years after taking over from previous host Alan Brazil, shared that she would even miss ‘Spurs fans’ after she presents her last show on Wednesday June 28.

The 35-year-old calls time on a role that won her multiple awards, including Best Speech Breakfast Show at the 2021 ARIAS.

Mail Sport revealed that Woods is being lined up to front TNT Sports’ revamped coverage of the Champions League next season when BT Sport undergoes its summer rebrand.

Stelling, who himself is stepping back from an iconic presenting role, tweeted: ‘Well done (Laura Woods). You have put in a real shift.

The Soccer Saturday veteran has also stepped back from a hosting role this summer

‘Good luck in the future. Enjoy the lie ins!!’

In April, Stelling announced that the 2022-23 season’s iteration of Soccer Saturday would be his last as host, and the storied broadcaster presented his final edition on the last day of the season.

Stelling has been associated with the programme for 29 years, joining first when the programme ran as Sports Saturday in 1994.

The 68-year-old initially announced his retirement from the position in October 2021, but in March of the next year, Stelling reversed his decision to stay for another season.

His final broadcast was an emotional one: Stelling was given a standing ovation by his co-hosts Paul Merson, Clinton Morrison, Kris Boyd, and Michael Dawson, a compilation of his finest moments was played, and the host shared a poignant message with viewers.

Sky Sports are believed to be looking in-house to replace the Hartlepool fan, with the organisation’s current presenters Adam Smith and Julian Warren considered the frontrunners to lead the marquee programme.
