Chelsea hero Joe Cole believes Christian Pulisic will be “raging” after he was left out of the starting XI against Real Madrid on Wednesday. Pulisic scored Chelsea’s goal in the 1-1 draw in Madrid in last week’s Champions League semi-final first leg. However, the USA international dropped to the bench for the return match against Zinedine Zidane’s side.
Thomas Tuchel instead decided to go with a front three of Mason Mount, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
Cole believes Havertz deserved a start following his brace in Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League win over Fulham.
However, he was surprised by Tuchel’s overall team selection and says Pulisic in particular will be angry.
“It surprised me,” Cole said on BT Sport.
“Havertz has played himself into it. I think it’s the one where Tuchel would have been sitting there, with Werner, I think he runs off the ball better than anyone in this squad.

“Pulisic dribbles and drives with the ball, but Werner is the one.
“If I’m Pulisic now, I’m raging because it’s a big game and you feel like you’re playing well.
“But Havertz is one of them, I think he’s put him centrally to come off into the pockets and to allow the space for Werner to run in behind.”
Chelsea are looking to reach their third Champions League final and attempt to win the tournament for the second time in their history.

Petr Cech was in goal for the Blues’ triumph over Bayern Munich in 2012.
And the former goalkeeper, now the club’s technical and performance advisor, has praised the performance of Tuchel’s side in this year’s competition.
“The whole team has been absolutely brilliant throughout the knockout stages,” Cech said ahead of kick off on Wednesday.
“We already won the group and we could see the quality of the players and of the hard work, preparation.
“The reason is because we have some very experienced players together with players who are hungry to win the trophies.”
Cech also had a word for Chelsea No 1 Edouard Mendy, who he had a big say in bringing to the club last summer.
“With Edouard Mendy behind, he’s been absolutely outstanding so far, so altogether it came to the point where the team is defending well and don’t give away many chances,” Cech added.
“It’s his first campaign in the Champions League, but he’s at a good age for a goalkeeper and the way he is, his personality, he’s very calm and he wants to be better every day.”
