John Terry mocks Piers Morgan by saying Arsenal went ‘missing for 20 years’

John Terry has brutally mocked Piers Morgan by claiming Arsenal “went missing for 20 years”.

Arsenal fan Morgan took to Twitter on Wednesday to gloat about the Gunners leading the Premier League table. He belittled Chelsea over the club spending £323million in the January transfer window – more than all of Europe's other sides put together.

Morgan posted a picture of the Premier League table with the caption: “'Reminder to Chelsea fans: we’re top of the League, you’re 10th, and we’re 21pts ahead of you with a game in hand. So spend all the gazillions you want but what you REALLY need to buy is a telescope to look up at Arsenal.”

But Chelsea legend Terry, who won 17 trophies with the club, was having none of it. The former skipper hit back by claiming he has had more success post retirement than the Gunners have enjoyed on the pitch.

“You have gone missing for 20 years! And you still have a long way to go… I have won more trophies since I retired playing gold than Arsenal have,” he savagely replied, with an added golf emoji for good measure.

That prompted the journalist and TV presenter to bite back, tweeting: “Pipe down ‘Tiger’ Terry… it was only 18 years ago that Arsenal went unbeaten in a whole League season (incl stuffing Chelsea, led by you, home & away…) So the only thing that’s ‘missing’ is the word Invincible’ on your CV….”

The hostility follows the increasing rivalry between the two London clubs of late, after Chelsea hijacked Arsenal’s pursuit of Ukrainian winger Mykhaylo Mudryk. Despite the Gunners being favourites to land the youngster, Blues owner Todd Boehly swooped in and completed an £88m deal at the eleventh hour.

Chelsea have also battled Arsenal for the signatures of Raphinha, Gabriel Jesus and again Moises Caicedo in January. Yet Chelsea’s wild spending could be a sign of Arsenal’s changing fortunes under Mikel Arteta, with the club first in the league while the Blues struggle under Graham Potter.

Arteta’s side beat Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge back in November. They will next face off on April 29 in what is bound to be a tasty affair.
