Jonathan David’s agent puts English clubs on red alert as he confirms this ‘will be his last season’ at Lille and insists the Premier League is ‘a good option’ for the Arsenal-linked Canadian hotshot

Jonathan David’s agent has confirmed the striker will leave Lille next summer and claims the Premier League is a ‘great option’ for the young star.

The United States-born forward is currently the top goalscorer in Ligue 1, having netted 11 goals in 18 league games so far this season for the current champions.

David’s goalscoring abilities have captured the attention of several high profile clubs including Arsenal – who are remain uncertain over the futures of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The 21-year-old’s agent, Nick Mavromaras, revealed the following on Radio Canada:  ‘For us, the goal is to finish the season in Lille, but it will be his last season there for several reasons. I think the Premier League is a good option for him.

‘I think that he likes Spain a lot also because he likes the feeling of the ball and the very technical players. These two leagues are a big priority for him, but nothing is excluded.’

Mavromaras’ comments will be music to Mikel Arteta’s ears as he is said to be interested in bringing the forward to England. 

Arsenal previously scouted David at his former club Gent in Belgium and have been present during the current campaign in his second season in France.

The Canadian scored 13 goals in 37 Ligue 1 appearances last season for Les Dogues as the club won the fourth league title in their history.

However, he is performing even better this season. Therefore, Arsenal will be eager to lure to youngster to the Emirates. 

David’s age also fits in to the age bracket the Gunners are currently looking to recruit – having signed Aaron Ramsdale, 23, Ben White, 24, Nuno Tavares, 21, Takehiro Tomiyasu, 23, and Martin Odegaard, 22, in the summer.

Additionally, Arsenal need to reinforce their attacking line as they remain uncertain over the futures of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

‘I can’t say the price today. It’s down to Lille. But in the end, that’s football. Jonathan isn’t going to show it, but he knows he is one of the best young forwards in the world.

‘There’s also Erling Haaland who could cost between €75m and €100m… If you want to be part of that list, you have to learn to manage the pressure.’
