Jordan Henderson tells England to be "horrible" if they are to beat Belgium

Jordan Henderson has called on England to be ‘horrible'.

The message from the Liverpool skipper comes ahead of Sunday’s UEFA Nations League showdown against FIFA’s number one ranked Belgium.

Henderson, who will win his 56th cap in the Wembley clash, declared: “We need to have the same identity all the time – that’s playing with passion and desire and just being horrible to play against.

“It’s about being really good defensively but also having flair and attacking license to go forward and cause problems, which I know we can do.

“It’s getting that balance. The most important thing is always having that intensity that we know can trouble opposition.”

Meanwhile, Henderson says all the squad support Gareth Southgate’s strong stance against players breaking COVID-19 rules.

Tammy Abraham, Jadon Sancho and Ben Chilwell were axed for Thursday’s 3-0 win over Wales after attending a private party with more than the six people permitted during lockdown.

Three Lions midfielder Hendo went on: “Gareth has handled certain situations in terms of discipline very well. Everyone backs him in what he said.

“But at the same time I am a senior player and have to support my team-mates as much as possible.

“We know playing for England there’s a big responsibility and any little thing will be under scrutiny. We’ll get targeted a lot, everybody has to try to do their best.

“But in the general times of COVID, it’s not just footballers who make bad decisions and mistakes.

“You look at politicians, you look at businessmen, they’ve made mistakes as well.”
