Jorge Mendes to hold Sporting meeting to finalise Bruno Fernandes to Man Utd transfer

Jorge Mendes is set to meet with Sporting and present Manchester United’s offer for Bruno Fernandes, reports have claimed. It will be the super-agent’s first assignment since watching United beat Wolves in the FA Cup at Old Trafford.

Portuguese outlet Record claim that Mendes is now set to sit down with Sporting to try and finalise the final details of the deal.

United are believed to be ready to pay £60million plus add-ons, but they will not be sending anyone on loan to Portugal.

A number of players have been discussed as part of negotiations for a potential loan.

Sporting rejected the idea of taking Angel Gomes or Joel Pereira.

Marcos Rojo used to play for Sporting, but is leaning towards a move to Fenerbahce.

The Primeira Liga club were said to be keen on Andreas Pereira, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not prepared to lose him this month.

Tahith Chong’s name has also been mentioned but the Dutchman’s entourage are fully focused on other offers which include Inter Milan.

United are hoping that their strong relationship with Mendes can help them secure the deal for Fernandes.

He is a man that has worked with Ed Woodward plenty of times and was instrumental in helping United secure the signings of Cristiano Ronaldo, David de Gea, Radamel Falcao and Angel Di Maria.

Sporting, the banks (because of Sporting’s current financial problems), agents and Sampdoria (Fernandes’ former club) are all set to receive a slice of the payment.

Fernandez is expected to say farewell to his club on Friday when his side face Benfica.

There is talk that a deal is being held up by Sporting’s determination to ensure he plays against the league leaders.

It’s a big derby and an important match in their season and Fernandes will be hoping to sign off in style.

Sporting boss Jorge Silas recently confessed that he is already preparing for Fernandes departure, by looking for solutions within his squad to fill the void he will leave behind.

“He’s a huge player. All players like Bruno always have a lot of market,” Silas said.

“We know that he’ll always be a much talked of player and sought by clubs as big as they say.

“I don’t like to think about that beforehand, but I’m starting to think of alternatives within our team if Bruno doesn’t stay with us.

“I hope that doesn’t happen. In Portugal, unfortunately, we can’t keep the best players for long. Bruno is the best player in the league.”
