Kai Havertz and Mario Gotze’s verdicts on Arsenal transfer target Julian Brandt
Arsenal will land a player capable of being better than Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland if they sign Julian Brandt in the January transfer window. That’s the verdict of his former team-mate Kai Havertz – while Mario Gotze has also lavished praise on the Borussia Dortmund midfielder.
Mikel Arteta is believed to be weighing up a move for Brandt as he looks to add more creativity to his Arsenal squad.
The Gunners have won their last three Premier League games, with Emile Smith Rowe impressing in the number 10 position and Bukayo Saka thriving on the right of the attack.
But earlier in the season Arsenal struggled to create chances – and Brandt is being considered as a possible solution.
The 24-year-old joined Dortmund from Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen in a £22.5million move in the summer of 2019.

But he is struggling for consistency this season, having failed to score so far while registering just one assist.
Brandt has played in all but one of Dortmund’s league games this term – but has mainly used as a substitute.
And reports claim a fee similar to the price Dortmund paid for him would be enough for Arsenal to secure a deal.
And that could prove to be a bargain, according to Brandt’s former Leverkusen team-mate Havertz, who left Germany for Chelsea last summer.

Speaking ahead of a clash between Leverkusen and Dortmund last year, Havertz told Kicker: “Sancho and Haaland don’t play too badly, but he’s the best player at Dortmund at the moment.”
Gotze has also previously spoken of his admiration for Brandt.

After his Germany team-mate joined Dortmund, Gotze said: “I think Julian Brandt is very, very good.
“I got to know him with the national team and I think he can bring us to a higher level again.
“He can bring us forward on the wings as well as in the centre. It’s a very good transfer for Borussia Dortmund.”
