Chelsea are on the verge of sealing a £90million deal for Bayer Leverkusen sensation Kai Havertz.
Reports suggest Havertz, 21, will become Frank Lampard ’s latest summer recruit this week, following Hakim Ziyech and Germany team-mate Timo Werner to Stamford Bridge.
And the Blues are not expected to conclude their transfer business there, as Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell and out-of-contract Brazil defender Thiago Silva are also said to be on their way to the club.
Having not made any new signings over the past year, and following the £100million sale of Eden Hazard last summer, Chelsea have more than enough in the bank to fund Lampard’s squad revamp.
Yet according to Sport Bild , the west London club will not be paying Havertz’s £90million fee upfront.
It is believed Leverkusen will receive an initial £72million for the midfielder, with a further £9million to come based on expected performance – such as qualifying for the Champions League – and another £9million to come from potential trophy success.
The German outlet reports that Chelsea will officially unveil Havertz as their latest signing this week, playing down any possibility of the move breaking down at the last minute.
According to The Sun , they will be paying him a whopping £80.6million over five years in SW6 – which equates to around £310,000 per week.
That would make Havertz the highest-paid player at Chelsea, eclipsing Werner’s £170,000-a-week deal.
The latter became Lampard’s second signing of the summer back in June, completing a £54million switch from RB Leipzig.
Werner’s arrival came after the Blues secured a £37million deal for Ziyech, who called time on his four-year stay at Ajax to officially join them in July.

Chilwell is also expected to become a Chelsea player this summer, with Leicester reportedly accepting a £50million bid for the England defender.
And amid Lampard’s clear desire to bolster his backline, former PSG centre-back Silva is set to join on a free transfer after leaving the Champions League finalists upon the expiry of his contract.
