It didn't take long for things to get heated between Manchester City and Real Madrid, as there were handbags after just 10 minutes at the Santiago Bernabeu.
And Aymeric Laporte has been called out for his "beyond embarrassing" reaction to Luka Modric, who didn't back down against the tall Spaniard. Things got heated during the early stages of Wednesday night's Champions League clash and both players were booked following their altercation.
But despite Laporte's stature, he flopped to the floor and clutched his face in a desperate attempt to tempt further punishment early on in their second-leg clash against Madrid. But the Spaniard has been rinsed for his laughable antics.
You'd think in a day and age with constant VAR assessment, that players would stop trying to cheat the system. But Laporte clearly wasn't thinking as he clutched his face for no reason at all, highlighting City's desperation to progress to the Champions League final.
His "embarrassing" behaviour has sent Twitter users into a sea of rage, with one fan posting: "That’s beyond embarrassing from Laporte." And another added: "Nothing worse than players going down holding their faces for absolutely nothing."
Another sarcastically joked: "Aymeric Laporte is extremely lucky to not have seriously injured his face while slapping Luka Modric. Seems to be absolutely fine."
And one really didn't hold back, as they said: "Yellow for Laporte for being an idiot and yellow for Modric for no reason. The referee is a coward."
It's Liverpool that await in the final after they survived a serious scare in Villarreal on Tuesday night, but overturned a two-goal deficit to win 3-2 on the night, winning the tie 5-2 on aggregate. It's their third final in four years, but City are desperate to end their drought, as Laporte's antics proved.
Madrid are the most successful European side in history, and they're chasing a 14th crown. And it would cap off a wonderful season after winning La Liga.
