Leeds United director of football Victor Orta has reportedly focused his efforts towards signing SD Huesca’s Spanish left-back Javi Galan who completed a mammoth 121 dribbles this season, second only to Lionel Messi in La Liga.

Galan bettered the likes of Karim Benzema, Luis Suarez and Luka Modric to finish second in terms of successful dribbles, only falling short of the Argentine who is widely considered to be the best dribbler to ever play the game.

Even sweeter for Leeds is the fact that Galan’s release clause plummeted from £7million to a meagre £3.5m as he enters the final year of his contract with recently-relegated Huesca.

With such an incredible statistic on his resume, Galan would be an ideal fit for Bielsa’s enthralling side who favour pedal to the medal attack, regularly allowing defenders to express themselves at the business end of the pitch.

Galan is certainly no stranger to that style of football, completing more than three dribbles per game in a virtually ever-present season where he turned out 37 times in the league for Huesca.

At just 26-years-old, the tricky Spaniard would almost certainly be smart business for the Yorkshire side if they could convince him to sign.

He would only command a tiny fee in today’s market for a player who could be worth several times the amount after just one season.

A contrasting figure is Romain Perraud of Stade Brest, the 23-year-old Frenchman who turned heads around Europe after contributing to 10 league goals this campaign, earning himself a spot in the Ligue 1 team of the season alongside the likes of Kylian Mbappe.

Perraud was widely reported to be Leeds’ preferred option at left-back, but the proposed price tag of approximately £10m was thought to be a stumbling block for the deal.

The Frenchman attracted significant interest from the likes of Lyon and Marseille in his homeland, but recent reports suggest Southampton are on the verge of completing a deal which will likely force Leeds to ramp up their interest in Galan.

The step up in pursuit of a left-back from Leeds comes as rumours continue to circulate that Ezgjan Alioski is set to leave Elland Road before the start of next season.

Alioski has been a loyal servant to the club since 2017, regularly pitching in with goals from full-back.

But an ongoing saga with Turkish club Galatasaray will undoubtedly be on his mind as he gears up for this summer’s European Championship with North Macedonia, the country’s first ever major tournament.

As his future is likely to remain up in the air until the tournament’s conclusion, it remains to be seen how Leeds’ left-back situation will unfold but Galan is an exciting target.
