Jesse Lingard has been told he lacks ambition after failing to seal an exit from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
That is the verdict from former Manchester City star Trevor Sinclair, who cannot understand why the midfielder stayed put this year.
The Red Devils welcomed Lingard back in the summer after he stunned the Premier League with some electric form with West Ham.
After being ostracised by the arrival of Bruno Fernandes, Lingard went elsewhere in a bid to garner first-team football and joined the Hammers on loan in January.
It saw him score nine times in the Premier League – his best-ever total in one year – in just 16 appearances and talk of a permanent move grew.
United slapped a £30m price tag on the 28-year-old, who worked his way back into the international set-up as a result of his fine form.
But West Ham refused to meet that valuation, especially for a player who is out of contract next summer, and a transfer never came through.
To further leave the Red Devils with a problem, Lingard refused the latest offer on the table with his heart set on leaving next year when a number of clubs will be able to come in for his services.

However, Sinclair has slammed the Englishman for his lack of ambition
"If he doesn't get given the assurances and signs the new deal, then he's not as ambitious as I'd like him to be," Sinclair told talkSPORT.
"I am confused – why didn't he join West Ham permanently?
"He was loved there. He was the main man.
“He played once for Manchester United last season, he played 16 times for West Ham.

West Ham have signed former Everton flop Nikola Vlasic from CSKA Moscow instead, though they could revive their interest next year when Lingard becomes a free agent.
Other interested parties include Leicester, Aston Villa and the Toffees with the playmaker set to scoop a decent signing-on fee.
