Lionel Messi has GOAT status revoked as fans discover pizza order ‘monstrosity’

Lionel Messi's 'monstrosity' of a pizza order might well have harmed his status as the greatest of all-time.

Fans have joked that the Inter Miami star was showing off the worst selection of toppings that they had ever seen. Messi, 36, shared his dinner on Instagram while thanking the restaurant – but it didn't go as he expected.

Banchero Miami, which creates Argentina style pizza on Miami Beach, served the Barcelona icon a bread base covered with sliced tomatoes rather than sauce, as well as olives, onion and plenty of pepper and oregano.

One fan replied: "What is that monstrosity." A second added: "What kind of blasphemy is this."

A third said: "Earning millions and then proceeds to order this s***." A fourth wrote: "There's no way anyone can convince me that pizza tastes good. Wtf is that."

A fifth asked: "Does this pizza choice hurt Messi’s goat status?" A sixth then joked: "Messi might be the GOAT but he has the WOAT pizza order."

Messi's followers might not have realised that pizza is enjoyed differently in Argentina, with sliced tomatoes common.

Inter Miami fans won't be bothered, having watched the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner score 11 goals across his first 11 appearances.

Messi has also helped them to Leagues Cup glory as well as into the final of the US Open Cup while climbing up the MLS table.

In a recent chat with the Miami Herald, Messi said: "People in this city and this club have made it easy for us. The fans, the people that I meet every day on the streets…

"It’s a spectacular city, and that’s why I am happy. We are in that adaptation period, we don’t have a house yet, the kids are going to school soon, and that will help us get used to daily life.

"It’s been much easier than we thought. The move from Barcelona to Paris was somewhat complicated, but this has been easy."
