Lionel Messi named FIFA Best winner and fans can’t wait to let Ronaldo know
Lionel Messi won FIFA’s The Best award while fans savagely mocked Cristiano Ronaldo on Monday night.
The Argentine, 35, beat Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema to the prestigious award after guiding his nation to a long-awaited World Cup triumph in December. It was the second time Messi had claimed the prize, taking his total FIFA World Player of the Year awards to an astonishing seven.
Messi also earned himself a place in the team of FIFA FIFPro Men’s World 11, while his long-time rival Ronaldo was a notable absentee.

While Messi’s year showed his remarkable levels of consistency, his Portuguese counterpart was benched by Erik ten Hag at Manchester United before having his contract terminated after a controversial televised interview.
Ronaldo, 38, also suffered at the World Cup, scoring a meagre penalty before being dropped by the Portugal manager, who he also ended up having a spat with. The ex-Real Madrid star then shocked the world by joining Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr, thereby bringing his career at an elite level to a head.

Meanwhile, Messi enjoyed arguably the most successful season of his career to date by notching seven goals and three assists while propelling Argentina to victory in Qatar. And fans used the Paris Saint-Germain star’s latest award to troll rival Ronaldo over his rapid decline.
One Twitter user wrote: “Lionel Messi is the best player of FIFA in 2022. He is clear of Ronaldo.”
Another tweeted: “Messi winning Fifa best while all Ronaldo got was shown on the bench.”
A third brutally commented: “Ronaldo about to wear the number 7 from today onwards just to honor Messi for winning 7 ballon d’Ors and 7 Fifa the best.”
And a fourth added: “While Leo Messi is winning awards, Cristiano Ronaldo is busy banging goals against plumbers in the Saudi desert.”
