The England squad booked their place in the final eight of the competition after a dramatic penalty win over Nigeria, where Chloe Kelly scored a thumping winner.

However, it’s been far from the tournament that England had been hoping for in terms of on-pitch performances and they’ll look to rectify that with hard work.

A number of Sarina Wiegman’s squad were seen getting to work in the gym ahead of the clash with Colombia on Saturday afternoon.

The Lionesses will be without Chelsea star Lauren James after her dramatic sending off in the last round after she stamped on one of Nigeria’s stars.

A number of Wiegman’s stars – such as Mary Earps, Rachel Daly and Ella Toone – were seen putting in the graft on Thursday afternoon.

Spirits looked high in England camp ahead of their clash with Colombia, where they will face 18-year-old sensation Linda Caicedo.

Despite the fact they have won all of their matches in the competition, there is still an underwhelming feeling about England’s performances.

Their 1-0 wins of Haiti and Denmark left a lot to be desired and their struggle to beat Nigeria only solidified concerns about Wiegman’s side.

A number of England’s stars will have been sure to put in a shift in training, with James’ suspension leaving a space to be filled in the starting line-up.

The likes of Georgia Stanway, Chloe Kelly and Alessia Russo will be hoping to take the spot of James for the Colombia clash.

Despite James’ ban providing a serious issue for England and their progression in the tournament, the Chelsea star has received full backing from her team-mates.

Millie Bright, who was sent off in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup, also had words of support for James but insisted England must ‘move on’.

‘I have had red cards,’ Bright said. ‘I know exactly how that feels. It is important that she has her space and lets her emotions settle.

‘But it’s done now, we move on. All that matters is we come together as a group — we have each others’ backs. It’s really important that we look after each other.’
