Brighton have reportedly identified Lille’s Cheikh Niasse as the man to replace Yves Bissouma if they lose him in the final days of the transfer window. The Mali international is the subject of interest from Liverpool, while Manchester United have also been linked with the Seagulls midfielder, who has started the new Premier League campaign impressively under Graham Potter at the Amex.

Bissouma has built himself a reputation as a fine box-to-box technician since arriving on English shores in 2018.

Slowly but surely, his performances have started to get the credit they deserve and clubs are continuing to keep tabs on the player.

The 24-year-old is understood to be valued at close to £40million but with little time remaining in the transfer window, there are question marks as to whether Brighton would sell in the coming days.

However, journalist Ignazio Genuardi reports that Niasse is on the club’s radar in case their resolve is tested for Bissouma.

Intriguingly, Bissouma was also snapped up from Lille at the age of 21 and there are clear stylistic similarities between the pair.

Express Sport understands Liverpool submitted an enquiry for the player earlier this week.

The Reds have been credited with an interest in Bissouma throughout the window but are yet to make a formal bid.

It remains unclear whether Jurgen Klopp will pursue a new midfielder to replace Gini Wijnaldum after having all summer to do so.

Harvey Elliott has now forced his way into Klopp’s thinking following a statement pre-season and he impressed once again against Chelsea, meaning Liverpool have found a new solution from within.

Meanwhile, Brighton boss Potter is adamant Bissouma will be staying at the club beyond August 31.

Speaking ahead of the 2-0 defeat to Everton, he said: “I have been answering questions about Yves for a long time, it’s a part of my daily routine!

“I answer questions about Yves, or when Tariq (Lamptey) was fit it was him, it’s just a part of football.

“He’s enjoying his football, I can’t control what others do or think.

“I know he’s with us. You can see from his performances he’s committed to Brighton, so we’re delighted with that.”
