Liverpool want to sign Manchester City outcast Kalvin Phillips in a £35m deal this summer.

Jurgen Klopp has targeted the England international after being priced out of a move for Jude Bellingham.

Klopp is desperate to bolster his midfield options ahead of next season and has made Phillips one of his main targets.

It's understood Liverpool have let it be known Phillips is on their radar – and the 27-year-old is open to a move to Anfield.

Phillips joined City in a £50m deal from Leeds last summer and was relishing the chance to play for Pep Guardiola.

But his move to the Etihad has turned into a living nightmare.

Would Kalvin Phillips be a success at Anfield? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

He underwent a shoulder operation in September which ruled him out of action until the start of the World Cup in Qatar.

And despite featuring for England in the tournament, Phillips found himself frozen out when he returned to the Etihad following a break in New York with friends.

Guardiola was less than impressed when Phillips took his full nine day holiday allocation, before heading back to Manchester lacking the expected fitness levels required.

Guardiola publicly criticised Phillips before Christmas after claiming he'd returned from the World Cup overweight – and banished him from training due to being out of shape.

Since then Phillips has become an outcast and has started just two games in all competitions.

He has failed to start a single league game since joining the English champions and was even overlooked for last weekend's FA Cup semi final win over Sheffield United, despite Guardiola not picking Rodri.

Phillips knows he will always play second fiddle to Spain international Rodri.

And despite strong interest from West Ham, Phillips would relish the chance to reboot his career at Anfield and boost his chances of being involved in next summer's Euros with England.
