Ex-Liverpool star Jermaine Pennant told his old club they need to target two key positions in the January transfer window.
The Englishman spent three years at the Merseyside club from 2006 to 2009, after joining in a £6.7million deal from Birmingham City. While he scored just three goals in 81 games during an underwhelming time at the Premier League giants, he was named man of the match in their 2-1 defeat to AC Milan in the 2007 Champions League final.
Almost 15 years on from his departure from Liverpool, the 40-year-old has kept a close eye on the team and spoke of how impressed he's been with Liverpool's new-look midfield.

He spoke to King Casino Bonus on how the new signings have gelled together so soon after joining the club. "I said it was too early in early October, but we've seen how well the players have settled into the side since the season began," Pennant said.
"They've all taken to the Premier League like water to a duck's back. Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, and Ryan Gravenberch have all looked really impressive. They look comfortable, and that was the focus. The midfield has gelled, and we all know how good their front-five can be! I think it's all looking well now."

While he waxed lyrical about their midfield, he suggested the club try and bring in Fluminense star Andre as well as Bournemouth captain Lloyd Kelly to sure up their defensive positions. "Liverpool might get a strong centre-back in January if there are any injuries, as I think that could be their Achilles heel," the ex-Arsenal star admitted.
"I'd say it's so far, so good in regards to Liverpool this season. I'd like to see Andre Trindade come in as a number six in January, and I'd go with Lloyd Kelly come in as a defender who can play both centre-back and left-back."
