Liverpool urged to sign Erling Haaland as Kylian Mbappe will be ‘too expensive’

Former Liverpool full-back Jose Enrique has urged Jurgen Klopp to sign Erling Haaland as Kylian Mbappe will be 'too expensive'.'

The pair are two of Europe's most sought-after talents, and both have been consistently linked with moves to Anfield.

French ace Mbappe is out of contract with Paris Saint-Germain in 2022 and could be available this summer – at a price.

PSG have slapped a £200million valuation on the 22-year-old forward, which casts doubt on a move to Merseyside.

Haaland's deal at Dortmund doesn't run out until 2024, but his price is likely to be much lower in the current climate.

Dortmund are facing reported losses of around €75million due to Covid-19 and may be forced to cash-in on prized assets.

One such asset is Haaland, who has a buy-out clause in his contract that allows him to leave the Bundesliga club for €75m in 2022.

Ex-Red Enrique wants the Norwegian centre-forward at Anfield this summer and thinks the 20-year-old is a much more realistic signing than Mbappe.

"My choice is Erling Haaland. We can rule out Kylian Mbappe – he’ll be too expensive. But I think Haaland is possible", he told Empire of the Kop.

Enrique continued: "He’s so good in the air – he’s a beast. Can you imagine Trent and Robbo crossing balls into the box for Haaland? Wow!

"They would get another 20 assists each per season. He’d be another dimension for us and is the kind of player we should be going for.

"Haaland might cost £100m, but we spent £75m on Van Dijk and that’s what it takes. You can guarantee City will spend £100m-odd on the striker who replaced Aguero.

"If you think about it, the only one of our forwards who’s good in the air is Mane – so a striker like Haaland would be my priority this summer."
