Liverpool could swoop for Jadon Sancho after Borussia Dortmund's admission that a 'gentleman's agreement' means he can leave this summer.
Sancho has been touted as a potential successor to Mohamed Salah after the Reds star's latest comments appeared to throw his future into doubt.
Salah admitted there was still no progress on a new deal with the Premier League giants, amid rumours he could join Real Madrid or Barcelona.
And Jurgen Klopp's side have an opportunity to beat Manchester United to the signature of England winger Sancho, with Dortmund having reportedly dropped their asking price.
Liverpool are keen on making a move for Dortmund star Sancho if Salah leaves this summer, according to German publication Bild.
The Bundesliga club's sporting director Michael Zorc admitted over the weekend that Dortmund will allow the 21-year-old to leave this summer if certain conditions are met.
"We already had a gentlemen's agreement with Jadon last year that he can switch under certain conditions," Zorc told ARD .
"He's been with us for a couple of years.”
Those conditions are understood to include that Dortmund have time to find a suitable replacement for a player who has banged in 12 goals and notched 17 assists from the flanks this season.
The club are understood to have dropped their asking price to £78million, after demanding United cough up £108m for the winger last summer.
It's still a mind-boggling sum with clubs struggling for cash amid the ongoing pandemic – but Liverpool could fund it with the proceeds from selling Salah if the top scorer does decide to leave.
Alarm bells will have been ringing for Reds fans after Salah revealed talks were yet to open over extending his current deal, which runs until 2023.
“No one is talking to me about that, so I can’t say much about that”, Salah told Sky Sports.

Salah, who has scored 29 goals in all competitions this season, has previously stated his admiration for both Madrid and Barcelona.
And it could be the perfect time to cash in – with a ready-made replacement seemingly within reach.
