Man City fans can pay £1200 for five-course banquet during games this season

Forget prawn sandwiches – Manchester City fans will feast on five-course banquets of chalk stream trout, duck in plums and vanilla parfait with burnt meringue.

The Premier League champs are introducing luxury VIP match packages which are set to put rival Manchester United’s prawn sandwich brigade to shame.

City’s “VVIP Experience” – which costs from £12,000 for a 10-seater box – ensures fans are “immersed into the game like never before”.

Supporters will be able to welcome the team and manager Pep Guardiola at the Etihad stadium, watch the players warm up pitch-side and even listen in on match tactics.

The club says: “This package makes you feel part of the team, standing shoulder to shoulder with some of the world’s greatest footballers.”

Fans can indulge in the Harvey Nichols Experience in a box stacked with goods from the store which they can try on.

They can tuck into a menu from the shop’s restaurant and take part in whisky or wine tasting and a cocktail masterclass.

The club’s Champion package includes the chance to watch the warm-up on the pitch, present the captains with the match ball, meet the players afterwards and tour City’s trophy room accompanied by a photographer.

Its price has not yet been revealed.

Former United captain Roy Keane once slammed VIP supporters for not making enough noise during games.

He said: “They have a few drinks and probably the prawn sandwiches and they don’t realise what’s going on out on the pitch."
