Eric Garcia has taken a swipe at Manchester United after completing his return to Barcelona from Manchester City. The Spaniard’s career path has been compared to the one taken by veteran Barca defender Gerard Pique, and Garcia has claimed that he played for the better Manchester club.
The 20-year-old has confirmed his move back to Barca following a two-year hiatus.
A fellow graduate of Barca’s famous La Masia, Pique moved to United as a teenager for a brief spell before moving back to the La Liga giants.
And City defender Garcia will make a similar move when his contract with the Premier League side expires at the end of June.
He broke into Pep Guardiola’s side at the start of the 2018-19 season, featuring in three Carabao Cup ties as City won the second of their four successive titles in the competition.
Garcia then made his league debut in City’s 8-0 thumping of Watford at the start of the following term.
JUST IN: Chelsea boss Tuchel caught mocking Guardiola ahead of CL final
Guardiola has handed the youngster a total of 35 appearances but limited his game time after it became clear that he would not extend his contract.
There were just six Premier League appearances this campaign, with the last coming in the 3-2 defeat against Brighton three weeks ago.
Garcia was free to speak to foreign teams from January. He has now confirmed his drawn-out negotiations with Barcelona, who finished a disappointing third in the Spanish top-flight this season.
A centre-back just like his new team-mate Pique, Garcia is keen not to discuss comparisons between the pair.
However, he did manage a subtle dig at United.

“I don’t care because I think we’re different footballers, right? The truth is, I play down the subject,” the defender said when asked about comparisons between him and Pique by L’Esportiu.
“Gerard has achieved everything, he is one of the best central defenders in the world, he is more than recognised and I am 20 years old and I am starting my career, practically.
“So the only possible comparison is this: that we are both from the [Barcelona] academy and we lived in Manchester, but he played for the not-so-good team.
“I was luckier and I was able to play for the best team in Manchester. It’s a shame for him.
“I have thought about my future and what I think is best now.
“I think it’s a brave decision. I am very convinced of the step I have taken.”
Garcia could be joined in making the move from City to Barcelona by Sergio Aguero.
The Argentine is set to end his incredible 10-year association with the club after the Champions League final. He is reportedly in advanced talks with Barcelona.
At 33 and having struggled with his fitness this season, there are questions over how much Aguero could contribute with Ronald Koeman’s side.
However, Garcia has urged people to look beyond Aguero’s age.
“Kun is a phenomenon and a goal-scoring machine. How old you are, forget it, ” he added.
“Kun will score goals until the age of 100. He is a legend, a myth. And a fabulous team-mate.”
