Man United rage at referee Michael Oliver

Man United supporters fume at referee Michael Oliver as Darwin Nunez escapes with a yellow card for kicking the ball away and sarcastically clapping after Diogo Dalot was sent off for dissent

  • Man United drew 0-0 with Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday
  • Diogo Dalot was sent off and Darwin Nunez was lucky not to be minutes later
  • CHRIS SUTTON: Erik ten Hag was WRONG to say Man United played well after their abysmal Champions League exit… is he losing credibility? It’s All Kicking Off

Manchester United fans were furious when Diogo Dalot received a red card against Liverpool and they were even more angry when Darwin Nunez escaped the same punishment minutes later.

Dalot received two yellow cards in a matter of seconds for dissent after he vented his frustration at a decision over the incorrect awarding of a throw-in.

The general consensus was that it was an extremely harsh decision from referee Michael Oliver.

And viewers were left perplexed when Nunez remained on the pitch for a trio of wrongdoings moments later.

The striker booted the ball away after elbowing Jonny Evans and was shown a yellow card for his troubles.

Darwin Nunez sarcastically clapped the referee after receiving a yellow card on Sunday

Nunez did not receive a second yellow despite Diogo Dalot being sent off for dissent earlier

He proceeded to sarcastically applaud referee Oliver but was not punished like Dalot.

Fans quickly took to social media to compare the two incidents with one tweeting: ‘Nunez booked then sarcastically clapped the decision… no second yellow.’

Another wrote: ‘Nunez kicks the ball away and claps sarcastically at the linesman but he doesn’t get a double yellow for that. Dalot reacting to an obvious mistake from the ref and he’s sent off LMAO.’

A third tweeted: ‘Nunez elbowed Evans in the chest with no intention of playing the ball, kicked the ball away after the whistle was blown and then, mockingly clapped at Michael Oliver for giving a foul against him but he didn’t get two yellow cards btw.’

The match ended in a stalemate, meaning Jurgen Klopp’s men missed the chance to regain top spot from league leaders Arsenal.

The gunners beat Brighton 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium earlier in the day to climb back up to the summit of the table.
