Man Utd ace Donny van de Beek warned he faces Bruno Fernandes problem after RB Leipzig win

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek will continue to struggle to get into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting XI on a regular basis, according to former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy. Van de Beek made his full European debut for United in the 5-0 Champions League win over RB Leipzig on Wednesday. The Holland international is yet to start in the Premier League since his £40million summer arrival from Ajax.

Van de Beek was substituted after 68 minutes, making way for Bruno Fernandes at 1-0.

The introduction of Fernandes and Marcus Rashford changed the game, with the latter grabbing a 16-minute hat-trick to lead Solskjaer’s side to a comprehensive 5-0 win at Old Trafford.

And Cundy does not think the impact Fernandes made is a good sign going forward for Van de Beek.

The pundit cannot see Fernandes and Van de Beek starting too many games together and therefore reckons it will be the Dutchman who struggles for game time.

“Van de Beek must be thinking ‘okay I had my chance’, he comes on, Fernandes, and Rashford comes on, and you’ve gone from being 1-0 to 5-0 in a very short space of time,” Cundy said on talkSPORT.

“He must feel: ‘God, I’ve got to try and get in front of him’, because I can’t see how he will play the two.

“If he does, I don’t think it will be that often. And [Paul] Pogba?

“So I think he will struggle, Van de Beek, to get a regular spot.

“It is a long season but you kind of feel for him a little bit because I don’t think he did anything wrong, he wasn’t particularly outstanding.”

Rashford continues to shine on and off the pitch, as he continues his campaign against child poverty in the UK.

As a footballer, Cundy says he would rather have the England international than Brazil superstar Neymar.

“Rashford was outstanding,” Cundy said on talkSPORT.

“He’s a brilliant player, he’s a brilliant young man. Yeah [he’s world class], I’d have him over Neymar.

“People talk to me about Neymar and I’ve had this argument for years now and I’ll still have this argument – give me [Raheem] Sterling, give me Rashford over Neymar every single day of the week. He’s overrated.

“I saw the performance last week against PSG, Rashford again, walks off with the prize. Neymar again, flattering to deceive.

“Again Rashford tonight, brilliant performance, brilliant.

“He’s on the crest of a wave and he’s had a brilliant time, not just on the field but off the field as well.”
