Liverpool and Manchester United have been warned that Jude Bellingham could be worth ‘double’ his previously touted £100million price tag by the end of the 2022 World Cup. Bellingham is set to play a starring role in England’s run in Qatar, just months before Europe’s biggest heavyweights are expected to battle for his services.

Liverpool and United will reportedly be joined by Manchester City and Real Madrid, among others, as frontrunners for Bellingham’s signature next summer. But with his price tag already thought to be nine figures, a stellar World Cup would only boost his worth to Borussia Dortmund.

And Red Devils legend Bryan Robson believes the Bundesliga giants could demand at least £200m for Bellingham at the end of the season. In his latest Daily Mail column, Robson believes the 19-year-old midfielder can use the World Cup stage to cement his status as one of Europe’s top midfield talents.

He wrote: “Jude Bellingham was being talked about as a £100m player before this World Cup, and we could be looking at Borussia Dortmund asking double that by the summer. No matter the price, they will not be short of takers. Every time I see Bellingham, he impresses me. This can be his stage to prove himself a world-class performer.”

Bellingham snubbed United before joining Dortmund in 2020 due to believing there was a clearer pathway to regular senior football in Germany, despite meeting Sir Alex Ferguson during a tour of the club’s training facilities. But Robson, who lifted seven major trophies at Old Trafford, has claimed he made the right choice.

“Manchester United really wanted him, but he chose Dortmund. Yet, I think that German discipline has benefited him,” Robson added. “You see so many of the players at Dortmund or Bayern Munich come through the ranks with the right attitude and work ethic. Plus, he has had invaluable first-team experience that he might not have got in England.

“He has done so much with Dortmund that I found it hard to believe that his header against Iran was his first international goal. What I liked about it was the timing of his run, and he did not fling his head at it excitedly. He just glanced it over the goalkeeper using the pace of the cross.”

Bellingham is dead-set to start again for England in Friday’s Group B clash against the USA after impressing alongside Declan Rice in Monday’s 6-2 win against Iran. And Gareth Southgate will hope he was the missing piece of the puzzle in the heartbreaking 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020 outcomes of old.
