Manchester United are reportedly keen on landing Ruben Neves. Barcelona have apparently dropped interest in the Wolves star, with the midfielder now ‘already negotiating what could be his transfer’ to Old Trafford. And, should a move take place, then Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay may be shown the door.

Manchester United want to land a new midfielder this summer, with Frenkie de Jong and Jude Bellingham two of the players under consideration behind the scenes.

However, Sport claim Neves is ‘already negotiating’ a move to Old Trafford – suggesting the Portugal international may arrive instead.

The midfielder was constantly linked with a move to United during the spells of Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager.

Ten Hag could, however, now strike to boost United’s options when it comes to the middle of the park.

Neves would be a big arrival for the Red Devils, with the 26-year-old proven in the Premier League and experienced at international level.

Therefore, it’s feasible he’d walk straight into the team and be played alongside the likes of Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes.

It is also possible, however, that the arrival of another midfielder – one of Neves’ talent and quality – could then push two players towards the exit door.

Scott McTominay was playing well at the beginning of the season, even starting over Casemiro at times.

But the Scotland international has since fallen down the pecking order and has struggled to become a regular in the side this term.

When Casemiro is fit, he gets into the team by default.

And if the midfielder is injured or suspended, Ten Hag usually prefers to call on players such as Marcel Sabitzer and Fred instead.

United blocked McTominay from leaving the club back in January, determined to keep their squad together as they plotted a path to silverware.

They could perform a U-turn if Neves arrives, however, especially given the interest from Premier League rivals Newcastle.

United are expected to spend big again this summer and selling McTominay for as much as £30million would be a logical way of balancing the books.

Van de Beek, too, is another member of the squad who could opt to pack his bags and leave Manchester for good.

Many expected the Netherlands international to be a hit when he touched down from Ajax back in the summer transfer window of 2020.

Yet Van de Beek has never been able to make his mark at United, toiling under bosses such as Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and Ten Hag.

Seeking a new challenge elsewhere, somewhere he’d be able to play regularly, is something the 25-year-old is likely to consider.

It’s already been tough for him. Neves moving would certainly make things even more difficult.

As well as Neves, United are being linked with a plethora of other players at the current moment in time.

A new goalkeeper is believed to be a target, with Porto star Diogo Costa emerging as a candidate to rival David De Gea for a starting berth.

And United also want a new forward, too.

Harry Kane is a target, with Tottenham facing a struggle to keep the England international after yet another difficult campaign in the capital.

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is also admired, though won’t come cheap amid suggestions he’s worth around £100million following his pulsating displays.
