Manchester United's pursuit of Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele has ended.
According to club sources, the France international will not be moving to Old Trafford.
United switched their attention to Dembele after failing in their summer-long pursuit of Borussia Dortmund and England star Jadon Sancho.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been desperate to bring in another wide attacking player, with Sancho having been the No.1 target.
Dembele was considered by United as an option for a season-long loan, but Barca were only interested in a permanent deal.
Suggestions United changed their approach and were willing to pay £55million for Dembele, with less than four hours to go before the 11pm transfer deadline, have been dismissed by club insiders.
Dembele missed Barcelona training on Monday.
He did visit the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper base but didn't train with his teammates, due to illness according to reports in Spain.
Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman has been willing to sell Dembele ahead of Monday night's transfer deadline, with the Dutchman keen on bringing in former United flop Memphis Depay – a player with whom he worked during his time as Holland boss.
