Manchester United fans have been directing their anger towards the wrong Glazer, leaving an NFL insider furious.
Red Devils supporters showed their anger at their American owners by breaking onto the Old Trafford pitch on Sunday, postponing the game against Liverpool.
It marks a continued response to the club’s participation in the failed European Super League, with followers of the club calling for the billionaires to leave.
Despite a social media blackout being observed by football clubs, images and videos were soon shared online.
And it saw Jay Glazer, an NFL Insider reporter for FOX who is not connected to the United owners, pick up some flack on social media which he responded to.
Writing to his 1.2m followers on Twitter, the journalist said: “Just to be clear for the thousandth time as I woke up to all this stuff sent my way on social media.
“My family is from Brooklyn, NOT Tampa, we do NOT own Man United.
“We can’t sell because WE DON’T OWN IT! You can’t be that good a fan of them if you think an NFL Insider owns your team.”
But the journalist did see the funny side of some supporters’ misunderstanding a few hours later.
He added a tweet joking: “Ahhhh f*** it.
“After much consideration and many talks with my family (none) and due to the fact that the business is just getting in the way of my day-drinking I have, in fact, decided to sell my stake in Manchester United.
“This decision did not come easy.”
