Man Utd fans react as they face Dayot Upamecano in Champions League

Manchester United have drawn the short straw in this season’s Champions League after being put in the infamous ‘Group of Death’.

Drawn in pot two, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would have been hoping to avoid the big hitters in the first pot.

However, United were grouped with last year’s finalists Paris-Saint Germain, before RB Leipzig found their way into Group H.

Leipzig were one of the surprise packages of the tournament last season, reaching the quarter final before being knocked out in the last four by PSG.

The final stage of the draw saw newcomers Istanbul Basaksehir added to United's group.

But it was the Leipzig tie that has got United fans really talking.

Dayot Upamecano is likely to line up for the Germans, should he remain with the club once the window has closed.

The 21-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks, with Solskjaer under pressure to improve his backline.

United legends Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville have both urged their old club to make defensive signings after conceding five times in their opening pair of Premier League games.

And fans on social media believe drawing the Bundesliga side should influence their plans ahead of the October 5 deadline.

Following the draw, one United fan said: “Another reason to go for Upamecano,” while a second concluded: “I guess #MUFC won't be signing Upamecano this week then.”

A third fan posted: “We should sign Upamecano and weaken a UCL rival and give us a better chance to progress through the group stages or otherwise it’s Europa League for us again.”

“Rather than sign Upamecano now we'll wait to show any interest until after he's put in a couple of defensive master-classes against us during our group stage games, by which point his value will have gone up a little further,” a fourth predicted.

And another suggested: “Activate Upamecano's release clause NOW!”
