Manchester United chiefs have decided they do not want to pay a ‘crazy’ amount for Victor Osimhen, according to reports. Red Devils chiefs are big fans of the Nigerian and have three reasons why he is the long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.
United are in the market for attacking reinforcements following Ronaldo’s departure. PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo is their top target ahead of the January transfer window.
Gakpo is not an out-and-out No 9 and plays the majority of his football off the left. That would leave space for a signing such as Osimhen.
A January deal for Gakpo looks more realistic than for Osimhen, as Napoli would understandably be keen to keep the 23-year-old as they fly high in Serie A and look to go deep in the Champions League. But Osimhen is certainly on the radar of United.

Transfer reporter Florian Plettenberg says the ex-Lille star is a top target for the Premier League giants. He claims United chiefs love three things about the striker – his speed, physicality and finishing ability.
However, a price of £86m is currently deemed too high. Marcus Thuram has also been linked with United but Plettenberg has cooled those rumours.
He tweeted: “News #Osimhen: As reported he’s one of the top targets. But been told that #MUFC doesn’t want to pay a crazy price around €100m. Bosses say: He is ready for the Premier League! What they appreciate about him: Speed, physicality. He’s a finisher! Thuram is not hot.”
Osimhen has been in fine form for Napoli this season, scoring nine goals in 11 Serie A appearances. He has 38 goals in 76 appearances for the Italian side since joining from Lille in 2020.

He only had one season in France, where he scored 13 Ligue 1 goals. There are still two-and-a-half years remaining on Osimhen’s Napoli contract.
United boss Erik ten Hag spent big in his first window in charge in the summer. However, he recently stated plans have begun for further improvement to his squad.
Ten Hag said in October: “In this moment, also last week, we focus on the games. In the background, we always continue a process, working on the squad, so we want to have top sport culture and you see and examine how you can improve and that’s what we will do.”
