Man Utd takeover hopeful slams the Glazers for being ‘not very professional’

Rashford's verdict on Man City treble as Man Utd aim to catch up

Manchester United bidder Thomas Zilliacus has slammed the Glazers for prolonging takeover talks, suggesting that the controversial siblings are running an ‘unprofessional’ process. Interested parties are waiting on a final decision from the Glazers over whose bid for the Premier League outfit will be successful.

Finnish businessman Zilliacus remains part of the bidding process despite appearing to pull out before the third round of offers. He wrote at the time that he would ‘not participate’ in the third round as the exercise had been turned into a ‘farce’.

The 69-year-old then decided to say that his second proposal remained tabled, claiming that it is a ‘flexible’ offer. He insists that he remains serious about his bid and that he is in direct competition with Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

However, Zilliacus has renewed his attack on the Glazers by accusing United’s current owners of running an ‘unprofessional’ process. Some of the parties have grown frustrated over how long it has taken to get to this stage, with the deadline for bids happening in March.

“The whole process has become a bit of a spectacle. There are new rounds and new bids and this and that and I think it reflects the fact that the Glazers don’t really know what they want to do,” Zilliacus told Tribal Football.

“Look, I should not judge people that I have never even met. But the process they’ve created is not very professional.

“I mean, if you have three serious bidders, and I know that we are serious and I have no doubts about Sheikh Jassim and Jim Ratcliffe, then I think the normal thing would be for the seller to invite each one of the bidders to negotiations and you would discuss and you would come to a conclusion.

“Instead, we are now having these anonymous bidding rounds over and over again to a point where, as far as I know, none of the bidders really know what is going on.”

Sheikh Jassim’s team were forced to deny reports earlier this week that his bid had been successful. A Qatari media outlet claimed that the royal had been ‘congratulated’ by a businessman from the country, before rowing back on the suggestion.

Figures at United remain in limbo over the takeover. Head coach Erik ten Hag is planning a busy summer transfer window, with an overhaul of certain parts of his squad expected. However, the Dutchman is unclear what funds will be available for targets.
