Marcus Rashford’s 76th-minute goal was enough to secure all three points and moves United into the top four.

Rashford has now scored five match winning goals as a substitute, the joint most in Premier League history.

Ten Hag lauded the forward but also singled out midfielder Fred for praise after he came off the bench to replace Christian Eriksen on 61 minutes.

Fred was shown a yellow card on 72 minutes for a foul on Nathan Collins, just moments before Rashford’s winner.

The 29-year-old Brazil international has made 18 appearances for United so far this season, mostly featuring as a substitute.

Speaking after United’s 1-0 win against Wolves, Ten Hag told BT Sport: ‘We have seen today. we have to fight for the points.

“I overslept and I was late for a meeting” 😅

‘In the first half, we were not good in the game, from the organisational [side] but also the presence. The second half in my opinion was better.

‘I think also with Fred, he came into the game, he gave good energy, he was holding balls, he was linking up and he was winning second balls.’

Ten Hag also explained his decision to once again play Luke Shaw at centre-back as he added: ‘With him being left footed, that helps him playing on the left side.
