Manchester United could secure the signing of Fulham loanee Joachim Andersen for a cut-price transfer fee this summer, according to reports. The Red Devils are said to be in the market for a new central defender ahead of next season, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the lookout for a long-term solution to partner captain Harry Maguire at the back, but the Norwegian boss could face competition from Tottenham for Andersen’s signature.
Victor Lindelof has impressed at times but has struggled for consistency as of late, while the future of Eric Bailly remains uncertain as talks over a new contract rage on.
Andersen has featured heavily for Premier League strugglers Fulham this season since joining the club on loan from Lyon in October.
The 24-year-old has played 25 times for the west London club in all competitions, catching the eye with his calm, considered distribution and impressive leadership qualities.
His performances have suggested that he could be a shrewd signing for United this summer, with the Old Trafford club able to tempt Lyon into selling with a bid of just £25million, according to The Telegraph.
The French outfit registered a loss in excess of £30m last season, a figure heavily influenced by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and are looking to raise some much-needed funds.

As a result, club chiefs would be willing to consider ‘offers of an acceptable level’, but are not preparing to discuss Andersen’s future until his return from Craven Cottage.
The Lilywhites currently sit three points adrift of safety with seven matches remaining to retain their top-flight status.
United are keen admirers of the defender and are unlikely to let their judgement be affected by a potential failure to help Scott Parker’s side achieve Premier League survival.
However, Tottenham are also understood to be tracking Andersen with a view to a summer move, suggesting that the Red Devils will need to act quickly in order to guarantee his signature.
Jose Mourinho is, like Solskjaer, believed to be eyeing defensive reinforcements with Southampton’s Jannik Vestegaard and Milan Skrinar of Inter Milan among those to have been mentioned in connection with Spurs in recent weeks.
The report also claims that Lyon have received a firm enquiry from a Premier League club, the identity of which is unknown at this time.
Andersen has established himself as an important option for Denmark’s national team since making his debut in 2019 and is expected to feature for his country at Euro 2020 this summer.
He was heavily linked with Spurs and Arsenal two years ago while at Sampdoria, but the north London pair were beaten in the race for his services by Lyon.
The defender revealed shortly afterwards that he decided to snub the likes of the Gunners in order to play Champions League football.
“There were good clubs, but Lyon was the best choice for me,” he told Foot Mercato.
“I wanted to develop as a player, play the Champions League, be in a top team that fights for the title and Lyon was the best solution.”
