Manchester United have placed a £12million bid for Porto defender Alex Telles.
The 27-year-old is valued at £18m by the Portuguese club but he has less than 12 months to run on his contract and United hope to sign him for significantly less than Porto’s asking price.
Telles is believed to have already agreed personal terms with United over a four-year deal at Old Trafford, where he’d earn a salary of around £70,000-a-week.
After talks with the Brazilian’s representatives last week, the Guardian report that United have now firmed up their interest in the full-back by submitting a £12m bid for the defender.
Though Porto had hoped for more, the club are minded to accept the bid as they’re keen to recoup some of their losses due to the global pandemic.
United have made just one signing so far this summer with the £40m acquisition of Donny van de Beek from Ajax.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had earmarked making as many as four signings this summer but that looks unlikely to materialise, with the club working on a deal for Telles and a right winger heading into the final week of the window.
Should Telles arrive, he will provide competition for Luke Shaw at left-back and allow Brandon Williams to move over to his favoured right-back spot to challenge Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
United hope to recoup some of their outlay by offloading the likes of Andreas Pereira, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero in the coming days.
