Spanish forward Marco Asensio has sparked transfer rumours by revealing that ‘there are possibilities’ concerning his future at Real Madrid.

Asensio’s current deal expires at the end of next season, and although Real will would prefer the player to sign a new deal, they are prepared to cash in on the player this summer, according to

Manchester United are reportedly monitoring the forward’s situation with interest as they look to bring in several signings as part of new manager Erik ten Hag’s squad overhaul.

Marco Asensio, 26, has played 235 games for Real Madrid since joining from Espanyol in 2016

Asensio told reporters while on international duty: ‘I have one year left on my contract. Now, I am focused on the national team.

‘When this is over, we will talk. We will see what I will do with my future. I think there are possibilities.

‘There is also the option to stay and fulfil my contract year.

Asensio has won three Champions Leagues

‘Rumors are part of football, and more so at Real Madrid. High-level players are always associated with it. It’s something we have to live with.’

Real are understandably keen to prevent the player from leaving for free in a year and are preparing for crunch talks once Asensio returns from international duty with Spain.

Asensio is reportedly seeking assurances over playing time, and although his preference to stay at the Bernabeu, he is prepared to look elsewhere to get the minutes on the pitch he desires.

The Red Devils’ interest in the Spanish international is not thought to be high, with the Premier League side prioritising their attempts to prise Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona.

United’s shopping list this transfer window is thought to be extensive with the impending departures of the likes of Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, and of course club record signing Paul Pogba.

But despite the fact that Asensio is not confirmed to be on ten Hag’s radar, a club undergoing such a high profile overhaul as United would surely want to add a star with the medal haul and calibre of the Los Blancos forward.
