Martin Odegaard to Arsenal: Erling Haaland issues exciting reaction to transfer

Arsenal: Odegaard joins until end of season

Erling Braut Haaland has backed his Norway team-mate Martin Odegaard to prove a big hit in the Premier League at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta. The attacking midfielder has joined the Gunners on loan for the rest of the season from Real Madrid, after an agreement was reached last weekend.

Odegaard looked set to rejoin Real Sociedad before Arsenal made their move and Mikel Arteta proved decisive in convincing the player to pick north London over San Sebastien.

The 22-year-old was deemed the future of Norwegian football before Borussia Dortmund striker Haaland’s dramatic rise to prominence last season.

However, the pair are hopeful of firing their country to a major tournament in the coming years following European Championship play-off heartbreak.

Haaland has been full of praise for Odegaard after his move to Arsenal was confirmed and he predicts him to prove a major success under Arteta in the second half of the season.

He told VG: “Arsenal are a big club in England. The football is a bit different (from Real Madrid) but I think Martin can fit in very well in the number 10 role under Mikel Arteta. He is going to enjoy himself.”

Odegaard will wear the No 11 shirt for his new club with Arsenal paying a loan fee of around £2.5million to Real Madrid for his services.

The player has paid tribute to the role Arteta played behind the scenes in convincing him to join the club.

“I spoke to him before coming here, of course,” Odegaard told “That was very important for me and he seems like a top manager and I liked his ideas, the way he sees football and also the way he is.

“He gave me a great feeling and that was important for me to come here. He was crucial.

“I think every time you go to a new place, you want to make sure that it feels good and that there is a plan. But I think everything here just seems good.

“I like the club and I always liked the way that the club wants to play. Everything about the club and now how the manager wants to play, I think it’s a club that really suits me well. So I think it’s a good match.”

Arteta also has midfielder Dani Ceballos to help and the Spaniard also pulled his weight to persuade his former Real Madrid team-mate to reunite with him at the Emirates Stadium.

“Yes, [Dani] text me the other day and he had only good things to say about the club, the manager and everything,” Odegaard said.

“That was also important for me and he was happy for me to come here, so that was a good thing for me, to know someone here and to hear from someone inside the club as well. It’s good.

“It has been some hectic days but I’ve been talking to the club, to the manager and it seems like a great project and a great club,” he added.

“I’m just so excited and when I had the chance to come here, I felt like it was a really good chance to take. So I’m really happy to be here.”
