Mesut Ozil stretchered off after missing sitter as Fenerbahce nightmare goes on

Mesut Ozil has been stretchered off after missing a sitter in his latest Fenerbahce game, where the ex-Arsenal man has been enduring a nightmare.

The German was playing his sixth game for the Turkish side since making a free move from the Gunners in January.

With no goals and no assists in that time, though, the midfielder was hoping that he would open his account against mid-table team Antalyaspor.

But footage from the game shows that it turned out to be a game that Ozil will soon want to forget.

Having gone behind after 12 minutes at home to Fredy’s strike, the German picked up the ball in the middle of the penalty box with two minutes to half time.

With the goalkeeper stuck to the left upright, the 32-year-old has the goal beckoning.

His shot, though, is dragged just wide of the open goal – and Ozil can only hang his head in frustration.

And he was not on the pitch for much longer in the second half, going down from a tackle by Antalyaspor’s goal-scorer.

It saw the midfielder go over on his ankle, leading him to be stretchered off after 67 minutes.

But his side did get something out of the game as Enner Valencia secured an equaliser with just seven minutes left.

Ozil arrived at the Turkish SuperLig side in January, having failed to make an appearance this season under Mikel Arteta.

Despite the side’s poor form with the World Cup-winner in the squad, though, the German has been praised for his performances.
